earl grey

went to the ren faire yesterday. this is what greeted me:
scarecrow,halloween,pa ren faire
for those of you who don't know, horse skulls are just about the scariest thing in the world to me. it took of courage to take this picture from across the courtyard. yeeesh.

but yeah, it was a great day to go to the ren faire. the weather was wonderful. I was really impressed by the whole halloween thing this year. they had a whole lot more decorations and themed things. usually there isn't much of a difference between regular ren faire and halloween ren faire. I mean, come on. check this out:
scarecrow,wicker man,halloween,pa ren faire
pretty awesome, huh? we had a good turnout, too. it was me, Chris, Kylie, Kylie's Mike, Steve, Bobby, Shin, and Kyle. we finally got Shin to come with us after four years of trying. he even slept over at our apartment, just to be sure that he didn't oversleep.

after the ren faire, we went over to the new house to put in smoke detectors and check out the new railing (which looks awesome, by the way). being in the house made me more excited, but it also made me a lot more afraid. a whole house is a whole lot of thing to own. like, a frighteningly large thing to own. terrifying!

we also packed up a lot of things yesterday. we've got a pretty good dent in it, which is good, since we are moving in three days. I thought we should stay home and pack, but Chris insists we can get everything done on Tuesday and Wednesday. so here I am at SteveMikeBobby's, drinking tea.

as a side note, my space radio has a halloween station for the rest of the month. this is super-exciting to me. also, pumpkin pie blizzards are the best thing ever invented.

still alive

I am. just been very busy. had to meet with the mortgage guy on Tuesday, shop for a railing on Wednesday, meet with the insurance lady on Thursday, and do laundry Friday. and in the midst of all of that, I had to pack. and I still am packing. I think we've made a pretty considerable dent, which is good since we are moving in six days...

tomorrow my parents are putting the railing up at the new house, I believe. I would just like to make a side note about how awesome my family is. that would be VERY AWESOME. I dunno what we would do without them.

I will be going to the Ren Faire tomorrow, with free tickets, which is nice. that way I will only have to spend money on overpriced food. hurrah!

captain poop sock

so the realtor got back to us. upon looking at the house, she also has no idea exactly where they want a railing. so she's going to talk to the FHA inspector and try to figure out what he means. better hurry up, though, only ten days left.

got Chris' latest car insurance bill this weekend. seems his policy has gone up $30 PER MONTH due to the... incidents this summer. I think this seems like a lot. I mean, the break-in shouldn't count against him at all, by my standards. it's not his fault some morons broke into his car and stole his belongings. and that other thing that happened? I don't think one accident in several thousand years should cause a $3o per month increase. maybe $30 per year, I could deal with that. but not this. this is just silly.

mods

it's been a bit, hasn't it? let's see...

House Stuff:
to meet FHA requirements, we need to put in a stair rail somewhere out front (we are not entirely sure where, and our realtor hasn't gotten back to us yet - frustrated!), and put smoke detectors in two of the three bedrooms (one bedroom already has a smoke detector). looks like settlement will be on the 29th and the actual moving will be done on the 30th. I figure I will take a half-day on the 29th and a vacation day on the 30th. Chris, of course, works late on the 30th, so they won't let him have off. I am very angry about this. so I will spend the first night in our new home ALONE. except I doubt I will be, I imagine there will be people over to help and keep me company. my sister and my dad got me some Halloween decorations, so I will still be able to decorate. I'll have to buy some candy for trick-or-treaters. I hope there will be a lot of them.

Food Stuff:
laundry at my parents' house on Friday. we went to Arby's for dinner. for dessert we had delicious pastries from the Greek Food Festival. they we (as always) amazing.

we went to On The Border with Kim and Dustin yesterday. we had intended to go to Outback, but those jerks apparently don't open until 3:00 on a Saturday. excuse us for wanting our lunch at 1:30!

creeping up behind

this weekend was so/so, as weekends go. Chris had to work both Saturday and Sunday, so that really put a damper on things. Saturday was nice, I spent the afternoon with my parents and sister. we had intended to go to Homestead Antiques, but it seems to have closed without telling anyone. so we went for a nice ride in the country instead.

Sunday was pretty boring. I spent the day alone at the apartment; washing dishes, packing, sleeping. all really exciting things. by the time Chris got home, I was in a pretty bed mood from being bored all day. and then he insisted that we go grocery shopping, which made it worse. but then I felt bad, since he had worked all day and then came home to find me yelling at him for no apparent reason. I am kind of a jerk. he took it all in stride, though, didn't let it get to him. that guy deserves an award sometime, I tell you what.

today the movers came over to give us an estimate. well, they gave my dad and Chris an estimate. I was at work. but still, it is pretty exciting. I cannot wait to move. the waiting is driving me nuts! this all had better go through on time or I might snap.

Kylie's 21st Birthday

here is a slideshow of pictures from our night of revelry.

way to go, blog layout that cuts off half the picture...

so yeah, we had a really good time last night. all the worrying and terror was for naught. it was loud and there were a lot of people, but I think I handled it pretty well. the dance floor was pretty empty until, like, midnight, and by that time we were rather tipsy and much more interested in playing games. alcohol and re-loadable game cards are a rather expensive combination, it turns out.

there were some rather... entertaining people there. entertaining in a freak show kinda way.

oh, and at no point in the evening did I cross my arms like a grumpy old person. I did, however, frequently mention my 11:00 bedtime.

I would definitely go there again.

we went to Queen City afterward, since it is practically illegal to go out and get drunk and not follow it up with a trip to QC. plus, Mike had never been there, so we had to take him. Shin met us there, which was nice. I sure do wish we got to see that guy more often.

no-one vomited or was hung over today, so I consider the night a success.

long jacket

tomorrow is my darling sister's 21 birthday. I cannot believe she is going to be 21. I feel so old. I mean, come on. I was there when she was born. I can only imagine how my parents feel...

I remember my parents asking me what I would do if the baby turned out to be a boy. I told them I would throw him out a window.

I remember my uncle asking me if I thought it was a boy or a girl after seeing the ultrasound. "I am not sure," I told him. "I cannot see the eyelashes." of course, if it was a girl, she'd have really long eyelashes. duh.

I remember the night before she was born, after my parents had read me my bedtime story, they asked "when do you think the baby will be born?" I thought about it for a moment before responding with "oh, I think tomorrow."

I remember, for a brief time, when everyone thought she was a boy (due to some umbilical corn confusion)...

oh, tiny Kylie, I cannot believe you are all grown up. I must stop now, before I start crying.

anyway, I told her I would take her to place of her choice and get her drunk to commemorate this day. she chose The Works. I'll be honest with you, I am terrified. I've been there lots of times, but never on the weekend. from what I understand, this is a real night spot on the weekend. with lots of people and noise and dancing and that sort of thing. I have never been in such an environment before, and I think I am a little old to start now. if it was anyone else, I would have nothing to do with it. but for you, Kylie, I will step out of my comfort zone for the evening. for you!

she asked if I planned on finding a table in the corner and sitting there all night with my arms crossed like a grumpy old person. "Kylie," I told her, "I am an old grumpy person."

however, I just read on their website that they have $3 frozen margaritas on a friday, so maybe it will not be so bad after all. will my sister and I end up sexy-dancing? only time will tell...

night creatures call

we did end up going to Oktoberfest yesterday. it was very cold and windy up on that mountain. I was not expecting this, since it was so warm. I shivered a good deal. we mostly hung out w/ Chris' dad and his friends. he has a lot of friends. I do not think I will ever be able to keep them straight. I don't think Chris can either, so I guess it isn't so bad. surrounded by German food, I chose to eat a hot dog and french fries. I am a disappointment to my heritage. I also drank some beer because I didn't want to look lame drinking coke at what basically is a beer-drinking festival. later, Chris and I walked over to the tiny carnival section and drank some hot chocolate, which is much better than beer any day. here is a picture of us, taken by Chris' dad.
oktoberfest

do you know what else we did yesterday? we started packing! all four of the boxes I brought home are now filled with my books, and there are still more books to go. I think, probably, I need more books.

I had a terrible time sleeping last night. part of it was that I simply cannot sleep through a night ever. I always wake up at least once, but usually it is more like three times. last night it had to be at least eight. part of it was all the weird dreams I kept having. I had one where Chris had worms living in his neck. they had gotten there from some sausage he had eaten (yeah, I don't know either). he denied their existence and got offended when I didn't want to get anywhere near him. I could see them under his skin; it was disgusting. so then I woke up and it was around 4:00 am and I went back to sleep. in this dream I was back in school and had to take a test in a class I hadn't attended for the entire year. it was a different dream, but I was still concerned about the worms in Chris' neck (even though he wasn't in this dream). so everyone was like "oh no, the test!" and I was all "who cares? there are worms in Chris' neck!" and they, of course, had no idea what I was talking about. it was really weird.

I am in the process of making a Halloween cd. Chris doesn't understand this, he says there is no such thing as Halloween songs. if he had actually ever been a child, he would perhaps have watched the Disney Halloween special DTV Monster Hits. then maybe he would understand. my compilation will consist largely of these songs, with the addition of some others. when I get a final playlist made up, I will post it here. because I know there have to be other people out there who are my age and looking to relive the childhood glee of Halloween.

hunt with the legend

so I woke up Friday night/Saturday morning at 5:00 am and Chris was still not home. amazing how some colorful pieces of cardboard can keep a couple of 25 year old guys entertained for 11 hours. just amazing.

I had expected this to be a pretty slow day, due to this late night, but he woke up around 10:30, not the 12:30 - 1:00 I was expecting. so we had some breakfast and then we were on our way. first stop was the bank, to make our weekly deposits and withdrawls. life would be slightly easier if he would just get his checks direct deposited, but no, that would be too easy. we also had to get our August-September bank statements to give the mortgage guy. he wanted documentation of our initial house deposit clearing, but it looks like they (whoever they are) took their times cashing it. it must be on the September-October statement, which hasn't come out yet. ah well.

while we were there, Chris noticed that he only had $48 left, which was weird cuz he still owed me $50 for groceries. how very odd. he has no idea where the rest of his money (and $2 of our money) went, but I am willing to bet it had something to do with those colorful pieces of cardboard.

"does this mean I officially get to say that you spent our food money on Magic cards?" I asked him as we sat in the car eating the soft pretzels that were our lunch.

"sure," he replied. "if it will make you feel better." it certainly does.

after that we went back in the mall (the missing money incident flustered me to the point that we were actually in the car driving away before I realized that there was more I wanted to do inside the mall) to look at furinture. we have big plans for our tax credit money, and we wanted to find out exactly how far we could stretch it. looks like we can get the things we wanted (a king-size bed and a leather sectional sofa) and still have a nice bit left over to deal with The Ugly. hooray!

after that, we went grocery shopping. it was actually not all the busy, which was a surprise. we didn't have to wait in line or anything. marvelous! we usually get groceries on Sunday, but we might be going to Oktoberfest, so we wanted to free up the day.

now we are at SteveMikeBobby's house. Bobby and I are watching some sort of sharpshooter show on the History Channel, Steve and Chris are... PLAYING MAGIC! what else would they be doing? certainly eleven hours is not enough!

I am starving and would kill a guy for some cheese fries.

frosty

looks like the lottery winnings will probably go towards new brake pads and rotors for Chris' car. this whole "sharing money in a relationship" thing kinda sucks. just kidding. {]: )

Steve had his surgery on Wednesday. the excitement of this life-changing surgery pales in comparison to the new Zendikar release, or at least that's what you would think from talking to him. ::rolls eyes:: but no, from what he has told me, he is doing fine. he is in some pain, and the medication they gave him for it is not nearly as strong as he expected, but nothing too drastic. he said he would make a post on his blog about the whole business, but that obviously hasn't happened yet...

had dinner with my parents and sister the last two days. yesterday because it was Laundry Day, today because Chris was off at the M:tG release event. last night we had parmesan chicken, tonight we had stromboli. I will soon eat them out of house and home.

I have claimed Chris this Saturday, since I have too often lost him to M:tG these recent weekends. the real reason I get to keep him, I think, is because he is out of money. ah well, I'll take what I can get. I would like to start packing, since we will hypothetically be living in our NEW HOME in a month, but it is likely this will not happen. but then again, I only have four small boxes so far. we might be encouraged by the fact that they will not take long to fill.

speaking of boxes, a large spider has taken up residence on the back of my car. he's built a beautiful web across my license plate. what does this have to do with boxes, you ask? well, the handle for my trunk also happens to be under his web. this makes transporting boxes somewhat difficult. I had wanted to wash mu car (I have not washed it since March and it is looking rather grey instead of black), but now I do not want to because I will ruin his house at best and kill him at worst. I generally despise spiders, but his presence has grown on me in a major way. I take time to look at him every time I get in or out of the car. perhaps I can have Chris remove him from my trunk and put him in some foliage or something.
