So I've been away I for a while I guess.  I've been in a kind of down place and it was just too intimidating to even think about updating this.  I can't explain it better than that, really.  It just seemed like too much to try and post songs and photos here when all I want to do is sit on the sofa and watch Netflix.

This has been a difficult time of the year for me since I was, what, 15 years old?  Pile on top of that a number of things that have been happening in my life and the fact that Chris is at work pretty much constantly from Thanksgiving to New Years and you get the perfect combination of downers.  And so I let myself wallow a little.  Or maybe wallow is the wrong word.  I haven't been dwelling on the things that are making me unhappy, not really.  I've more just been letting myself rest?  Sure, I haven't been updating anything or washing dishes or folding laundry or cooking food.  Is it the healthiest way to deal with things?  Probably not.  But it's the only way I know.  It just feels super pointless to make a home-cooked meal and decorate for Christmas when I'm the only one who will see it or care.  So I just don't bother.  And then I feel worse for "wasting" an entire holiday season, which just makes my mood even worse.  It's a vicious cycle.

And then I've go this really frustrating thing going on where I know what I want out of life (or at least I think I do), but I either a) don't know what I can do to get achieve it or b) achieving it is completely out of my control.  So that's really annoying and certainly isn't helping at all.

I've decided to give myself until New Years to mentally hibernate, and then I'll be back.  For now I'm gonna keep watching The 100 and Ao no Ekusoshisuto.  And eating chips and dip and soda for dinner.  But hey, I've taken up embroidery.  So that's something.

Tuesday Tunes - Mess Is Mine

I'm currently super into this song, even though the video is creepy in a completely different way than the last video I posted...

Ash - A Year Update

It has been a year since we accidentally acquired Ash, so I thought it would be interesting to see how much the fluffy little beastie has grown in that time.  The answer: a lot.

Tuesday Tunes - Desire

I'm not sure when this song came out, I might be super behind the times with this one.  But I just heard it for the first time on Thursday and I was instantly hooked.  We started the car up just as she sang "I'm gonna kill you, I'm gonna lay you in the ground" and I instantly pulled out my phone to SoundHound it.  The song is super creepy - and so is the video!

October was, and is usually, a pretty busy month for me.  So here's a bit of a catch-up to tell you what I've been up to the last few weeks.

This month I:
  • enjoyed some lovely fog.
  • prepped some Halloween treat bags.
  • got new shoes.
  • enjoyed some more fog.
  • got a "new" car.
  • went to a clam bake.
  • bought produce at some farm stands.
  • made vegetable soup.
  • discovered french press coffee.
  • grew some pretty flowers.
  • saw a beautiful sunset.
  • donate money to some cats.
  • ate an amazing sandwich.

Spooky Halloween Meal

Last night was my late night for this week, so we celebrated Halloween early.  These were the features of this year's creepy Halloween meal.

For dinner we had creepy fingers (hot dogs), witches' fingernails (Bugles), and Halloween pasta salad with apple cider to wash it all down.

For dessert we made a graveyard cake.  You can see a step by step tutorial over on our Proper Wolf blog.  We drank homemade hot chocolate with ghost and pumpkin marshmallows.

My parents also got Kylie and I each an adorable coffin filled with delicious treats.

It was a wonderfully spooky evening!

Autumn Harvest Tea Party

I'm going to share some photos I took of the tea party I hosted last weekend.  Let me preface this by saying that it was SUPPOSED to be held outside, but it was much colder and windier than I had anticipated.  So it wasn't quite the way I envisioned it, but I think I did a darned good job for having to make spur of the moment changes.  Moving on...

Now to give credit where credit is due:

The menu, place cards, burlap banner, etc were all provided by DecoCards.
The butternut squash soup recipe was from Once Upon A Chef.
The miniature apple pie recipe was from This Creative Mom.
The apple cider recipe was from The Frugal Girls.
I learned to hollow out apples from Entirely Smitten.

And what party would be complete without bad cats?

Apple Picking at Brecknock Orchard

I went apple picking with some dear friends a few weekends back.  We went to Brecknock Orchard which is, in my opinion, one of the most picturesque places in the world.  It was a perfectly dreary autumn day, which made for some rather soggy walking - but I love the tone it gave these photos.
