Tuesday Tunes - So Happy

I'll wrap the month up with a song from The Great Gatsby trailer.  I still haven't seen this movie, but I'd really like to!

This week I:
  • finally had a morning glory bloom on my enormous vine.
  • carted a baby around on my chest.
  • had an obligitory cat pile.
  • went to Sycamore Springs Fall Open House.

I also did a few cool things that I was so excited about that I forgot to take pictures.  So use your imagination and picture:
  • going to Bruster's for the first time in a whole year.
  • watching the fog roll in over the city of Reading.
  • eating tofu for the first time.
  • blog planning with Kylie.

Tuesday Tunes - I Know You

This movie trailer song is much more recent than last week's.  I saw Maleficent in the theatre with my family for Father's Day and it was SPECTACULAR.  This song is spectacular, too.  You can say what you like about Lana Del Rey, but her voice is downright haunting at times.

This week I:
  • ordered wallpaper for the living room.
  • had a cat pile in my lap.
  • saw a rainbow through my sunroof.
  • enjoyed a toasty fire.
  • ate macarons.
  • found a grasshopper.
  • (finally) got a dresser for Chris.

Brunch Date - Queen City

Chris and I have gotten into the habit of going out for brunch on Saturday or Sunday.  Now that we are old people, we are actually awake early enough to be out and about before restaurants stop serving breakfast.  Of course, Chris usually ends up getting something entirely un-breakfast related, but I suppose that's why they call it brunch.

This week we went to Queen City.  It's an old favorite of ours - we spent so much time at that restaurant in our early adulthood that it almost feels as if we lived there!  Nowadays we don't visit nearly so frequently, but we still stop in for their amazing cream of chicken and rice soup or, in this case, breakfast.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love reflection photos?  Because it's a lot.  If you look closely, you'll see me and long-suffering Chris.

I ordered tea with lemon and honey instead of coffee because my throat was feeling a bit prickly, although no-one makes honey-lemon tea as well as my sister does.

For my meal I ordered silver dollar pancakes.  If there are tiny pancakes on a menu, you'd better believe I'm going to order them.  There's just something about their miniature size that makes them taste so much better than the regular variety.

On our way our I noticed this cool new mural that's been painted on the wall  It's an excellent representation of the most beautiful parts of our fair city - Reading, PA.

Tuesday Tunes - Creep

This week's movie trailer song is kinda old, but still good.  This song was the entire reason I wanted to see The Social Network - but I ended up really liking the movie anyway.

Tuesday Tunes - Crazy In Love

I decided I'd go with a "creepy song covers from movie trailers" theme for my music recommendations in September.  So this week I'll introduce you to a song you might have heard in the 50 Shades of Grey trailer.  I couldn't find the exact song to link on Amazon, so I went with the orchestral version instead.  If you want the real one, you;ll just have to wait until the movie comes out I guess.

PA Ren Faire - August 2014

Chris and I went to the PA Renaissance Faire for the time travelers themed weekend back in August.  The theme seemed interesting and tickets were buy one buy one, get one so it would have been silly not to go.  I prefer to go in the fall, since it's usually really hot in August, but it wasn't bad this year.  We've had an unseasonably mild summer this year and I've been enjoying every second of it.

This was the first time Chris and I have ever gone to the Ren Faire alone, as in just the two of us.  It was a really nice change of pace!  When we are there as a large group, everyone seems to want to do something different or, worse yet, no-one will speak up about what they'd like to do.  So we usually end up milling around listlessly and getting bored.  But since it was just Chris and me, we didn't have that problem at all.  We ate lots of food, saw lots of shops, and had an all around good time.

I still intend to go back in October for one of the Halloween Days & Spooky Knights weekends!

Catching Up - Nature

As I believed I've mentioned before, it is very important to me to stop and take notice of how beautiful the world is each and every day.  Sometimes I take photos to remind me, and these are some of my favorites from over the summer.

I saw some beautiful flowers on a Saturday morning walk.

I sat out in the middle of a thunderstorm to get these swirling cloud formations.

The sunsets have been rather spectacular this year.

There's nothing very exciting about these clouds, I just really liked the way they looked.

I found these adorable mushrooms growing in my front yard.

And Chris made friends with a praying mantis.

I love it when the sun shines down through the clouds like this.

There have been so many rainbows this summer - it was hard to pick just one photo.

I saw this butterfly as I was on my way out one morning and just had to stop and capture it digitally.

Few things thrill me more than fog in the morning.  Just look at these clouds descending on the mountain.

Catching Up - Food

During my unscheduled blog break, I ate lots of delicious things.  Here is a mouthwatering recap - I know you're all super curious.

Steve and Meghan hosted a Mario Karty (haha, get it?) with a ton of themed foods.  I took lots of photos, but it was pretty dark in there and these are the best quality shots I managed to get.

For Father's day, I got giant sticky buns at the farmer's market.

We went to Say Cheese! and ate the most amazing breakfast pizza.

Desserts, of course, are my biggest weakness.

And I've had some spectacular mixed drinks this season.

I ate a good deal of my favorite fair foods.

And don't forget picnic food.

Chicken sandwiches.

And, of course, crepes.
